Introduction

Christopher W. Craighead is the Michael H. and Laura L. Rothkopf Early Career Professor of Supply Chain Management in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University.  He is also the Director of Research within the Center for Supply Chain Research.  His primary research interests lie in the area of strategic sourcing and supply management, with a focus on global supply chain disruptions/risk and resilience.  He has examined various aspects of managing risk/disruptions (e.g., assessment, mitigation) in a variety of supply chains (e.g., automotive, aerospace) and in light of various supply chain decisions (e.g., supply chain design, supplier selection, supply chain project investments).  Professor Craighead has articles published in Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Decision Sciences, Journal of Business Logistics and other journals.  He has been the recipient of several research fellowships, competitive research grants, and research awards.  For examples, he won best paper awards from Decision Sciences, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management and Business Horizons.  Recently, his paper “The Severity of Supply Chain Disruptions: Design Characteristics and Mitigation Capabilities” (Decision Sciences 2007) was selected as one of the top 50 articles with proven impact since its publication date and was the recipient of an Emerald Management Reviews Citations of Excellence Award.  This paper was selected from approximately 15,000 articles in the top 300 business, management and economics journals worldwide.  Professor Craighead currently teaches classes in strategic procurement and has been the recipient of awards for teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.  Professor Craighead serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Operations Management and Decision Sciences and also serves on the Editorial Review Boards of Production and Operations Management and Journal of Business Logistics. He has been the recipient of multiple awards for reviewing and editing excellence.
